One of my favourite song intro riffs by Simon & Garfunkel. Hazy Shade of Winter has an excellent opener and great upbeat energy to strum along to. Written and released in 1968 this song was also a massive hit for The Bangles in 1987.
The Version in the lesson today is a strumming version with the addition of the intro riff & a couple of picking embellishments that are revisited throughout the song.
Key: Am (relative to the capo and based on chord shapes) | Pitch-wise the song is in Dm
Time Signature: 4/4

if you’d prefer to strum the intro/chorus instead of play the riff here’s the strumming pattern and chords: ‘x’ = mute

an alt rhythm for the G6 chord as follows with an additional G chord to take you into the Chorus

Embellshments:
Due to the layered guitar nature of the song there are a few guitar parts to choose from. I have opted for a mainly strumming version but with the addition of some picking embellishments. The following tabs will replace the G6 (1) section and the G (2) section at the end of the verse.
