Today we learn Noah Kahans Stick Season on acoustic guitar. This acoustic guitar tutorial breaks down the song as it is on the recording. This is a great upbeat and bouncy song, we all need those in our repertoire.

Learn NOAH KAHAN Stick Season - (ACOUSTIC GUITAR tutorial)

True Colours. Classic. Released in 1986. Sung by Cindi Lauper.

The original recording is synth - based but it really lends itself well to an acoustic guitar arrangement. A lyrically beautiful song with some nice picking motifs and resonating chords, topped off with some simple strums in the chorus.

In this acoustic guitar tutorial we learn to play the intro picking, the verse and chorus with a little extra picking in the verse.

I you don't have your barre chords sorted yet or don't have the appetite for the picking parts, I've included easier, chord-based strum options.

Learn Cyndi Lauper - TRUE COLOURS - Acoustic GUITAR TUTORIAL

What a stunning tune. This song is truly captivating.
Today we learn Jeff Buckley Lilac wine in this Electric Guitar.

The lesson teaches the guitar as it is on the Jeff Buckley recording from the album Grace.
Yes, there have been many excellent versions of this song, especially Nina Simone. This one however, stopped me in my tracks when I first heard it and it's such a beautiful song to play and sing on guitar (electric or acoustic).

Due to the guitar being sparse and free form in the Verse / Pre- Chorus I have decided to do the lesson format as a guided play through with the lyrics and chords on the screen.

Capo on fret 3.

The chords are more than just basic open chords: Em C F#⍉ B7 Ddim A Am E E7 Bm FSharpm7
All the chords are demonstrated and there are chord boxes on the screen.

Learn JEFF BUCKLEY Lilac Wine - ELECTRIC GUITAR TUTORIAL

In today's fingerstyle guitar lesson we learn Travis Picking Pattern.
This has been used across genres in many, many songs, variations and complexities.

Today I demonstrate the foundational picking pattern in different short chord progressions in the keys of G, C & A. This aims to give you a good foundation and understand how you can apply the picking pattern to 6 string, 5 string & 4 string chords.

Travis Picking is a fingerstyle guitar picking technique named after Merle Travis, known for its alternating bass thumb pattern combined with melody notes played with the fingers of the picking hand. It involves using the thumb playing a steady bass line on the lower strings on the beat while the fingers play melody and/or chord notes on the higher strings. This technique is commonly used in folk, country, and blues music to create a full, rich and intricate sound on the guitar

Learn TRAVIS PICKING (basic pattern) - GUITAR TUTORIAL

Englishman in New York is an awesome song by Sting that sounds excellent turned up in the speakers AND makes for an awesome acoustic version.

In todays guitar tutorial we learn Sting - Englishman in New York on acoustic guitar.

There are 3 chords in the Verses and Choruses (Em7, Am & Bm) - we have an easier Bm to play if you don't have your barre chords sorted so don't be put off! The Bridge plays the Chords D, A, Bm, F#, G, A, A#dim, Bm.

The picking pattern is a driving thumb and pinched, staccato fingers to create the movement he has in the song. It's repetitive so is a good one to practise for timing and also if you don't have many fingerstyle chords under your fingers yet. The speed may be a bit quick for beginners but still worth having a go at.

This is a great song to play and sing. Really effective and fun.

Learn STING: Englishman in New York-ACOUSTIC GUITAR tutorial

Talkin bout a Revolution released in the late 80s is a well requested song for acoustic guitar strummers. Tracy Chapman has taken 4 chords, repeated them in the same order throughout the song and with a bit of an interesting strumming pattern created something that defines it and is instantly recognisable to this song even though these same 4 chords are used in countless other songs.

Today we learn Talking About a Revolution by Tracy Chapman. We look at the actual strumming pattern in the recording. I've added tab and rhythm charts to help reinforce the lesson.

In the second part I break down the rhythm into an easy version for those with less experience or those not wanting to learn the more complex version.

We use the chords G Cadd9 Em & D.
