Guitar Practice System G Major | Level 1
One Key. Hundreds of Songs.
A complete structured practice routine that walks you through everything — then lets you press play and just follow along. Level 1 of a series built around the keys that matter most to guitar players. G Major is where it starts.
Launching: 2nd January 2027
You want to really learn guitar.
You can play a few chords. Maybe you’ve been at it for a while. But something’s not quite clicking.
You practice, but it doesn’t feel like progress.
You know G, C and D, but they feel like separate things rather than part of something bigger.
Sound familiar?
You’re not sure what to practice or in what order.
You watch YouTube videos but there’s no through-line — just a pile of information with nothing tying it together.
You’re overwhelmed.
That’s not a talent problem. It’s a structure problem. And this is the fix.
Here’s What You Get.
The Guitar Practice System is a complete, repeatable practice routine built around one of the most common keys in guitar music.
You’ll be walked through the scale, the chords that come from it, common chord progressions, rhythm patterns, and three musicality techniques that will make your playing feel genuinely expressive — not just mechanical.
Everything connects. That’s the point.
You don’t need to figure out what to work on. The course does that for you.
Course Contents
No fluff. No filler.
56 minutes of content that earns every minute.
Here’s what you’ll work through:
Warm-Up The two-octave G major scale in open position — your foundation for everything that follows. Additional exercise to embed it properly and build real finger independence.
Build The seven notes of G major, the seven chords that come from them, and a chord-scale exercise that shows you how melody and harmony connect for the first time.
Connections Three common chord sequences used in hundreds of songs, a simple system for transferring everything you learn to any other key, and three different rhythm patterns to play them with. Additional mix and match tips.
Musicality Common guitar techniques. Alternate bass notes for an immediate country and folk groove feel. Walk-ups and walk-downs to connect chords with movement. Melodic phrases to add expression in between chords.
Bonus: Bring It All In A piece that pulls everything from the routine together so you can hear how far you’ve come.

The Honest Bit….
Most people don’t fail at guitar because they lack ability. They fail because nobody told them what to expect.
Progress doesn’t always feel like progress when you’re in it. Sometimes the sessions that feel worst are where the most improvement is happening. Slow down more than you think you need to. If you build it properly, it sticks. If you rush it, you’re reinforcing mistakes.
This course gives you the structure. You bring the guitar and the commitment. The rest takes care of itself.

Questions?
Is this for complete beginners or do I need some experience first?
You’ll get the most from it if you already know a handful of open chords and can strum along to a few songs. Complete beginners can follow it, but it’s designed for people who’ve been playing a while and feel like something isn’t quite connecting yet.
Does it work for acoustic and electric guitar?
Yes — everything in the course works on both. The techniques, chord shapes, and scale fingerings are the same whatever guitar you’re playing.
How long does each practice session take?
The play-along routine runs just under 22 minutes. You can do it in one go or split it across shorter sessions — the course tells you how to pace it.
What if I already know G major pretty well?
You might be surprised. Most players who know G major know the chords in isolation — this joins everything up. The musicality section in particular covers things most players haven’t been shown. Worth doing even if some of it feels like familiar ground.
Do I need to read music?
No. Everything is taught by ear and shown in tab and chord diagrams. No music reading required.
How long do I have access?
Lifetime. One payment and it’s yours. Come back to it whenever you want.
Who is Jo Bywater?
Jo Bywater has been teaching guitar for over 20 years. In that time, she’s seen the same struggles come up again and again — players who’ve been at it for years but still feel like they’re missing something, like everyone else got a manual they didn’t.
The Guitar Practice System is built directly from those patterns. The things that click for students. The exercises that make the penny drop. The structure that turns isolated chord knowledge into something that actually feels like music.
She teaches one-to-one lessons via Zoom from the UK, and runs a YouTube channel with over 30,000 subscribers. This course is the thing her students kept asking for.
